Gardens By the Bay 2019/2020
GARDENS BY THE BAY ANNUAL REPORT 2019/20 111 NOTES TO FINANCIAL STATEMENTS 31 March 2020 Derecognition of financial assets The Company derecognises a financial asset only when the contractual rights to the cash flows from the asset expire, or when it transfers the financial asset and substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership of the asset to another party. If the Company neither transfers nor retains substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership and continues to control the transferred asset, the Company recognises its retained interest in the asset and an associated liability for amounts it may have to pay. If the Company retains substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership of a transferred financial asset, the Company continues to recognise the financial asset and also recognises a collateralised borrowing for the proceeds received. On derecognition of a financial asset measured at amortised cost, the difference between the asset’s carrying amount and the sum of the consideration received and receivable is recognised in income or expenditure. Financial liabilities and equity instruments Classification as debt or equity Financial liabilities and equity instruments issued by the Company are classified according to the substance of the contractual arrangements entered into and the definitions of a financial liability and an equity instrument. Equity instruments An equity instrument is any contract that evidences a residual interest in the assets of the Company after deducting all of its liabilities. Equity instruments are recorded at the proceeds received, net of issue costs. Financial liabilities Trade and other payables are initiallymeasured at fair value, net of transaction costs, and are subsequentlymeasured at amortised cost, using the effective interest method, with interest expense recognised on an effective yield basis. Interest-bearing loans are initially measured at fair value, and are subsequently measured at amortised cost, using the effective interest method. Interest expense calculated using the effective interest method is recognised over the term of the borrowings in accordance with the Company’s accounting policy for borrowing costs. Derecognition of financial liabilities The Company derecognises financial liabilities when, and only when, the Company’s obligations are discharged, cancelled or expired. OFFSETTING ARRANGEMENTS - Financial assets and financial liabilities are offset and the net amount presented in the statement of financial position when the Company has a legally enforceable right to set off the recognised amounts; and intends either to settle on a net basis, or to realise the asset and settle the liability simultaneously. A right to set-off must be available today rather than being contingent on a future event and must be exercisable by any of the counterparties, both in the normal course of business and in the event of default, insolvency or bankruptcy.
